You may feel disconnected from your feelings, or you may feel overwhelmed by intense emotions. Both ways of experiencing emotions can cause major difficulties when facing life’s many challenges. You may end up trying to cope in ways that make life worse in the long run, like using substances, lashing out at others, self-injuring, or overeating.

DBT was developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., to help give people skills to manage their emotions and their lives more effectively. In our DBT group, you will learn many skills in the four categories of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills help you to identify and manage your emotions, participate fully in the present moment, tolerate difficult situations, and improve interactions with your friends, family, and colleagues.

The group, led by Heather Schatten, PhD, is a 28 week program, and meets on Wednesdays from 5:30-7 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Participants have the choice between the two different group times, though they must stay in the same weekly group for the entirety of the sessions. You are required to commit to the full 28 week program, which allows for two missed sessions without penalty. Dr. Schatten will cover all four DBT modules over the course of the group (distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness and emotion regulation). The modules will be organized in a way that allows for participants to join at two different start points, allowing for more efficiency and a shorter wait time for those hoping to join.

Tuition: $60/week. Insurance may reduce this amount. Please call us if you would like to discuss your insurance plan.
