Middle school and High school years are critical times for your child physically, mentally, and socially. They are going through a multitude of changes, and it can quickly become overwhelming. According to research.com, from school work to changing bodies to social groups, it’s no wonder 75% of students are reporting stress, sadness, and anger! Thankfully, clinician Leah Hoffmann, LICSW, is conducting two groups targeted for these ages to get a head start in feeling confident in themselves for the new school year.

‘CBT’ stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a proven form of psychological treatment that uses changes in ones thinking to problem-solve, cope and shift behaviors. At RICBT, this form of therapy is used by our clinicians both in individual sessions and group settings. Leah uses these techniques in her middle and high school groups to help improve their confidence and communication skills.

“In my many years of practicing in a school setting, I saw firsthand the benefits of group therapy. It offers a unique opportunity for kids and teens to develop, practice, explore peer interactions, and build social confidence in a safe, supportive environment.” – Leah Hoffmann, LICSW.

While individual therapy is important, Leah says that group therapy can help children overcome their social insecurities and improve self-expression. In 56 studies over twenty years, the Journal of Clinical Child Psychology reports that group therapy was even more effective with children and teenagers than other forms of therapy. As the world continues to isolate and disconnect, parents must encourage their children to build connections and overcome social insecurities.

School-aged children, specifically middle and high school, are constantly faced with stressors in their daily lives. Changes come around every corner, and with the world becoming more digital every day, practicing social and communication skills isn’t given the priority it deserves. With the Middle School and High School groups, Leah Hoffmann works with children to build their social confidence and practice peer interactions to help them overcome social insecurities and improve communication skills. Group therapy for teens is a fantastic way for children to open up and connect with others in a safe, supportive environment.
