Length of Workshop: weekly for six months
Time and Dates: Tuesdays, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Starting September 27th
Location: RICBT, East Providence
Seminar Description: Some people are disconnected from their feelings, while others are flooded by intense emotions. Both ways of experiencing emotion cause major difficulties when facing life’s challenges. RICBT will be offering a three part series in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for men and women who would like to learn how to effectively cope with emotion.
Life has pain and difficulties. However, when effective coping skills are lacking, these painful twists and turns lead to suffering and ineffective behaviors such as substance abuse, avoidance and emotional withdrawal, self-harm, overeating, and depression. Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., developed and researched DBT over the last 30 years to give individuals a set of tools for emotional resiliency. With the guidance of the group therapist, participants of this group series will experience, communicate and modulate emotions effectively. They will also work to tolerate distress, solve difficult problems in their lives and regulate unproductive impulsive behaviors. Step-by-step, group members will acquire a repertoire of coping skills to build a better life.
Cost: $1200. Many insurances are accepted. Please call for details.
