Workshop Description: Many people have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In fact, recent research puts the prevalance at one in forty people. People with OCD struggle with upsetting thoughts, worries, or images, and often get stuck in rituals to relieve the anxiety that follows. They commonly end up avoiding certain places or situations, because of the OCD, often not wanting to endure the tiresome rituals.
Fortunately, much is known about the condition and research has clearly shown that CBT is effective for OCD, leading most individuals to have significantly fewer symptoms and a significantly higher quality of life.
This group will help people understand the nature of OCD and how their symptom profile fits in to the general model for the disorder. Participants will understand more clearly the relationship between situations that trigger them, distress, and their rituals. They will learn strategies for breaking the cycle, how to engage in exercises to weaken the OCD pattern, and how to better resist engaging in rituals to reduce their anxiety.
Participants will learn a ton, get support from each other, and break the process of getting better down in to manageable steps.
